A workshop for adults that will give you access to the Museum’s Collection and introduce you to basic weaving skills that will be used to produce your own small piece of weaving.
This lecture traces the extraordinary life of Ethel Mairet from Barnstaple, via Ceylon and Chipping Campden to Ditchling. In 1917, Mairet built her influential weaving workshop and home named ‘Gospels’ which flourished until the early 1950s.
Margot Coatts is an independent curator, writer and critic, specialising in twentieth and twenty-first century crafts in Britain. She is a correspondent for Crafts and a tutor at the Royal College of Art.
Michael Taylor will talk about the historical and ideological context of St. Dominic’s Press, Hilary Pepler and the nature of St. Dominic’s Press books.
Michael Taylor is a full-time bookseller. In 1995 he wrote St. Dominic’s Press: a Biography in conjunction with Fr. Brocard Sewell. He is a contributor to Matrix and other journals.
Led by a member of Ditchling Museum’s staff this tour will include a brief history of the Museum and an introduction to the current show. Each exhibition tour in 2008 will focus on a particular element of the exhibition.

Adam Richards will talk about his influences and the relationship between art and architecture in his work. Adam Richards Architects were recently selected by Ditchling Museum as the practice to design the proposed development at the Museum.

This printing workshop, will allow participants to operate the Museum’s Stanhope printing press and to learn about the history of St Dominic’s Press, which was set up by Guild member, Hilary Pepler.
